Find out in this hilarious romantic comedy. After having his heart trampled on by his cheating ex, Carter Ogden is afraid love just isn’t in the cards for him. He still holds out hope in a tiny corner of his heart, but even in his wildest dreams he never thought he’d meet the Crown Prince of England, much less do a lot more with him. Yes, growing up he’d fantasized about the handsome, openly gay Prince Edgar, but who hadn’t? When they meet by chance at an event Carter’s boss is organizing, Carter’s sure he imagined all that sizzling chemistry. Or was it mutual? This unlikely but meant-to-be romance sets off media fireworks on both sides of the Atlantic. With everyone having an opinion on their relationship and the intense pressure of being constantly in the spotlight, Carter finds ferocious obstacles to his Happily Ever After, including the tenacious disapproval of the Queen of England. Carter and Price Edgar fight for a happy ending to equal their glorious international beginning. It’s a match made on Valentine’s Day and in tabloid heaven.Book Playing the Palace Review :
During this past exceptionally dark and often sad and frightening year and a half, I've taken to reading A LOT of romance novels. I've needed to believe in 'Happily Ever After' desperately after watching the news. This joyous "what if a sweet, insecure, good Jewish boy fell in love with the Crown Prince of England" book buoyed my spirit and made me laugh embrassingly loud so many times, my neighbors probably think I own a hyena. Thank you, Mr. Rudnick, for the delightful, if impossible, love between Carter and Edgar. You give hopeless romantic gay men like myself a smile and a sigh. When an events architect meets a prince, chaos ensues, love blossoms, and two countries will never be the same, in the best way. Carter Ogden thinks he's doomed in love. Prince Edgar doesn't trust his heart. But when these two meet, the chemistry is palpable and the emotions won't be squelched.I struggled with my rating bc I felt there was a TSTL moment toward the end which, even though explained as part of character evolution, still didn't ring true. But. I laughed and enjoyed the story so much, I got over it and will certainly read this again. Carter and Prince Edgar's romance is so lovely and fun. The family cast of characters enhance and support the main romance and plot and made for a memorable and ROTFLOL read. The trifle! Seriously. The palace protocols don't feel fully authentic; it's too easy for them to slip around. But the story doesn't suffer from the minor details (for more protocol-authentic feeling royal romance, try Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, and the His Royal Secret duet by Lilah Pace, both unforgettable and sublime in their own ways. But do still read this, because, the romance is equally hot!). The romantic tension is high and the scandals juicy. Enjoy!
