I enjoyed the story to an extent, I just feel that it lacked the depth and the character building I needed to love it. For example; The relationship between the two women grew so incredibly fast it felt unbelievable from the start. One moment you’re reading an ad for an apple peeler and the next you’re a reading messages between a seemingly developed dom/sub relationship. This made it feel like I was reading a creepypasta from Reddit rather then a book I purchased. You can argue that the intimate details of their conversation was “omitted” and that’s how they jump from zero to one hundred but to me that seems like lazy writing at its finest. I would’ve loved to read more conversation between the two, get to know more about them both to understand why and how. Even if the point was to not know much about either women the messages between them just aren’t enough to believe the ending was a result of said messages. So yeah, the ending may be “shocking” to some but with almost zero build up I just thought “gross” and moved on. You don’t feel the passion Agnes had for having a child (apparently a burning desire?) because you’re introduced to that fact minutes before she’s spiraled into that “gruesome“ ending. The whole story felt rushed and it’s a complete shame because with a little more to it I think it could’ve been a great story (but even the ending could’ve used so much more in my opinion). I understand this is a novella but it just felt lazy unfortunately. I sought a thriller and all I got were gratuitous, uninspired scenes of gore. Not even interesting gore, either — this might freak out someone super young and new to the genre but did nothing for me. The book doesn’t establish either character enough for you to care about their choices or anything like that. The first interaction was promising, then things turned increasingly fantastical and stupid. Everything is written for shock rather than immersing and investing the reader.
